Electricity is the lifeblood of modern civilisation. Our great cities would not exist without electricity, which has revolutionised science, industry, and culture. From the industrial revolution to the rise of the digital era, electricity has powered global development. Today, with the growing scarcity of conventional fuels and global warming, the world has realised that the generation of electricity is not the whole picture. Power generation should follow a sustainable model that does not adversely affect the environment. It is imperative for power plants to incorporate efficient technology while also investing in renewable sources of power generation. In the same vein, ANDRITZ, an international technology group, is leaving no stone unturned in promoting environmental protection and resource conservation through its cutting-edge power plant solutions.

A leading global supplier of plants, equipment, and services for hydropower stations, the pulp and paper industry, the metalworking and steel industries, and others, ANDRITZ provides a comprehensive product portfolio and customised solutions to enterprises worldwide. The company operates in more than 280 sites across 40 countries globally. With a staff of approximately 28,400 employees, ANDRITZ also offers technologies for other sectors including automation, the production of animal feed and biomass pellets, pumps, machinery for nonwovens, steam boiler plants, biomass boilers and gasification plants for energy generation, flue gas cleaning plants, plants for the production of panelboards (MDF) and thermal sludge utilisation.

Under its hood, ANDRITZ has a plethora of products designed to suit a particular business area.

For instance, the company has developed innovative environmental solutions like scrubbers–ANDRITZ SeaSOx–for the maritime industry, wet flue gas cleaning, dry flue gas cleaning, and DeNOx plants to control air pollution, biomass gasifiers and boilers to pulp and paper industry as well as for utility or municipal power plants in order to generate clean power, Soutec technology to automobile industries for a better vehicle crash performance, FBB burners designed to increase furnace output and lower NOx emissions, and many more.

Furthermore, ANDRITZ provides robust power generation technologies for commercial businesses to set up their own power islands. As a global supplier of proven biomass processing solutions, the company is blazing the trail in green energy production. With ANDRITZ, all types of biomass can be effectively processed, conveyed, stored, and fed to the power generation systems. The company also offers a comprehensive scope of process machinery ranging from biomass receiving to boiler silo feeding. The power boilers offered by ANDRITZ produce steam from the biomass, employing proven and modern techniques to generate power while significantly reducing emissions.

Among the many innovations of ANDRITZ, the most notable is the development of a robotic solution for harsh environments. Especially in powerplants, the boilers' smelt spout area has always posed a threat to manual cleaners, many of whom have often been injured by the hot splashes and small explosions. Recognising the danger of working in the recovery boiler smelt spout area, a combined team of experts from ANDRITZ decided to design a smart robotic solution called the Smelt Spout Cleaning System. The robots are placed in front of the smelt spouts. They are equipped with positioning sensors that enable effective and automated cleaning of the solidified smelt with a specially designed tool. Further, the working area of the robots is isolated from the personnel. Access to the area requires permission, and whenever operators enter the space, the robots are driven into standby mode.

This is one of the many success stories that have propelled ANDRITZ to where it stands today in the power generation space. With the rise in demand for renewable energy, ANDRITZ’s comprehensive suite of solutions will steer it ahead of the competition across the globe. The company is already investing in upgrading its technologies to promote a safe and clean power generation environment. ANDRITZ is on the fast track to redefine the energy sector into a promising, clean, reliable, and efficient power supply realm.
